Making Way For The Next Generation

Generations from now, people will walk on the path that you are creating today.

A couple of summers ago, I took this picture when we visited an old gold mine outside of Las Vegas. It was amazing to see the miles of caverns that were carved into the mountain that was the result of years and years of hard work.

As we walked through the narrow passageways, our tour guide talked about the process of creating the caves, and then he said something that stuck with me to this day - they averaged only one foot every day. When they blasted through the cave with the dynamite, they were able to locate a gold vein in the rock, and that gold vein became their guide as to where the path should go.

The Lord reminded me of this tour the other day, and He showed me that there are people who have been laboring for a long season, and digging through very hard ground. It feels like every day, they hardly make any headway, and they have begun to ask themselves if all of the hard work has been worth it. They are at a place of deciding whether or not to give up.

God is bringing encouragement to you this season and is releasing His grace to continue blasting away at the stone. I hear Him saying that this long process has been for a reason. If your hard work had gone faster, you would have missed the changes in direction of the gold vein, and all of the work you did would have been in vain (no pun intended). You did not hear wrong when you were led to start this process, and your patient obedience to the Lord during this difficult and long season will still reap a huge reward. You are building something significant that will be seen for generations to come, and decades from now, people will be in awe of what God accomplished through your hands.

I hear Hebrews 12:12-13 over you:
"So take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees. Mark out a straight path for your feet so that those who are weak and lame will not fall but become strong."
Your endurance will set a path for others to walk upon, and because of the cost you paid, they will become strengthened themselves. Be encouraged and receive the grace and strength that God is releasing to you today.
